The Royal Palace of Milan will exhibit from October 17th 2019 to March 1st 2020 about 50 masterpieces of masters of Impressionism, Post Impressionism and Avant-garde of the early 20th century that belonged to the Thannhausers and were donated to the Guggenheim Foundation in 1963. Here is everything you need to know about this unique exhibition.

The great artists of painting between Milan and New York.

For the first time, the most important masterpieces of the Thannhauser collection (permanently hosted at the Guggenheim in New York) will be put on display in Europe: after Bilbao and Aix-en-Provence, works by the likes of Cézanne, Renoir, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Monet, Degas and Pablo Picasso will arrive at the Royal Palace in Milan, in Piazza Duomo.

The exhibition, curated by Megan Fontanella, represents a unique opportunity to admire masterpieces of exceptional value, works of some of the most representative artists of the whole history of modern art.

Just to give an example: 13 works by Pablo Picasso will be exhibited. The artist was a friend of the great collector and philanthropist Justin Thannhauser and painted the works between 1900 and 1965, including one showing an affectionate dedication to the Thannhauser couple.

The itinerary of the exhibition, which will accompany visitors on a virtual journey through the history of art from Van Gogh to Picasso, will also give the opportunity to admire works by other great masters such as Braque, Seurat, Delaunay, Kandinski and Klee, belonging to the Guggenheim collection.
